Just for the Record

This is what the conservative right is calling fascist propaganda. I will confess that the speech made me cry in its beauty and hopefulness -- and cry for the direction of our country when such a beautiful speech is subject to such reactionary censorship. We, as a nation, should be ashamed.

I stumbled on this and thought it was sickening:

I am especially annoyed at the fact that my own child, a very patriotic 10 year old, was unable to view the speech as it was meant to be seen because of the complaints of a few.

Well...

Back in 1991, the Dems ATTACKED George H.W. Bush for his speech, even launched CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS against him for making his speech AND claimed that the $26k spent on it was a waste of money when kids are starving....

Yet...

The left now PRAISES this President when the downed the President from the right...

Come on...

If the left does it, the right hates it..if the right does it, the left hates it...period

B-Rob, Thanks for the transcript. NOW I get what all the fuss was about. Ha! I will confess we did not watch it in my class today but mostly because, um, I sort of forgot about it because I was into the swing of teaching descriptive paragraph writing and lost track of time. :(

Ford, My personal feeling is that such a speech as we saw yesterday should be an annual tradition. Reagan and Bush had the right idea and the Dem attack against Bush in '91 was wrong. My problem is that all sorts of nefarious "schemes" were attributed to yesterday's speech that I honestly found offensive. Believe it or not, there are actually some people on the left who don't immediately pile on the right. Our offense lies when our beliefs are attacked with such vehement hatred and misinformation. We're not perfect and we've certainly made mistakes.
