First Day Report

Well, after a nearly sleepless night (I could NOT fall asleep last night. It was well after 1:00 by the time I finally drifted off, so I'm operating on 4 hours of sleep right now), I reported for work this morning. I spent maybe 20 minutes actually in my classroom working to get ready for students. The rest of the day was spent in meetings or running around the building to turn paperwork in, confer on a couple things, etc.
"What," you may ask, "was the highlight of your day, Mel?" Was it the seemingly endless faculty meeting going over various bits of bureaucratic minutiae? Perhaps it was using the brand new copier in the office. Or realizing that I have 2 more students than I have desks in one of my freshmen English classes? Or finding out staff pictures were today -- thank God I did put on a tiny bit of makeup to cover the dark circles under my eyes? No, I think it was finding out that the speech textbooks that were supposed to be ordered over the summer were never ordered -- meaning that I start 2 sections of speech class on Wednesday with no textbook. Not panicking . . . . not panicking!!!
Tomorrow should be better. We have a meeting in the morning but then the afternoon was promised to us as work time, so I should be able to get some things done.
And a bonus about these days -- hourlong lunches which allows us to go out and sample the fine dining available in Monmouth. A group of teachers and I went to this little Mexican restaurant downtown today that offers a variety of lunch combos for $5.35 (and that includes drink!). I had two very delicious beef enchiladas with green mole sauce and the best Spanish rice around! Perhaps tomorrow we'll opt for Chinese.
Of course, I still won't have speech textbooks, but I'll have dim sum in my belly!

So I think your answer is that the enchilada special stood out as your highlight! Amazing how good food can make anything better. Guess that's why it's my medicine of choice.

You'll be fine. It will all work out. You are a rock star educator. I am living vicariously through ya!
